Exploratory
Reading with Diane Peer Seventh grade STARS in section
3 are reading Scott O'Dell's Sing Down the
Moon, a historical fiction book about the forced migration of Navahos from
their homeland in Arizona to Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
Students are taking turns being the discussion director, passage master,
vocabulary enricher, or connector for each assigned reading.
These tasks require thoughtful, interactive reading to prepare for
literary circle discussions. The
students are taking responsibility for connecting what they have
read to the world outside. Each
class period begins with a short reading comprehension exercise.
There is evidence of improvement in rereading, rethinking, and active
reading as we practice reading passages and answering a variety of questions.
Good job, STARS! ![]() |
